Kontakt is a sample playback device with a big library, but you'll need to get some 3rd party libraries to run in it, these tend to be expensive. Pro Tools is great for recording audio but the midi side sucks compared to pretty much every other DAW. I'd recommend a DAW with better midi, like Logic Pro, Digital Performer or Cubase.
